Richard Garland “R.G.” Johnson, 98, of Dawson Springs, KY passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center. Richard was born on March 10, 1927 in Dawson Springs to the late Richard Wesley and Bertha Ethel Moore Johnson. He was a member of Dawson Springs First Baptist Church and also attended Adriel Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson served his country in the United States Army as a motor sergeant and anti-aircraft instructor during World War II and as part of the 32 nd Engineer Group during the Korean War. After his time in the service was complete, he finished electrician training and eventually retired as a master electrician from P&M Colonial Mine. He was a jack of all trades and could repair or make almost anything. Mr. Johnson was a man of unwavering faith in God and love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, two brothers, and his wife of 58 years, Anita Murphy Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Yvonne Wallace Johnson, of Dawson Springs; his children, Johnny (Diane) Johnson of Louisville, KY, Janet (Scott) Summers of Dawson Springs, and Becky (Glen) Hedgspeth of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Alan) Hall, April (Shawn) Helm, Ryan (Polly) Johnson, Benjamin (ElizaBeth) Hedgspeth, Sean (Jamie) Johnson, Brock (Terri) Summers, Sarah (Stephen) Foster, and Kyle (Britney) Johnson; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brody Hall, India Hall, Sawyer Helm, James Johnson, Ellie Johnson, Jeremiah (Molly) Hedgspeth, Joel Hedgspeth, Grace Hedgspeth, Olivia Johnson, Brady Summers, Sadie Foster, Nora Foster, Matthew Johnson, and Kylee Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Ava Bell. Services for Richard Garland Johnson will be private. Beshear Funeral Home has been entrusted with care.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ryan Johnson, Sean Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Brock Summers, and his grandsons-in-law, Shawn Helm and Alan Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Coats, Scott Summers, and Glen Hedgspeth.
