Mr. Rufus Claude "Sonny" Baird

Rufus Claude “Sonny” Baird, age 88, of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Tradewater Health & Rehabilitation, Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Mr. Baird was born on February 23, 1926 in Caldwell County, Kentucky to the late Bud Baird and Rosa Elisabeth Hicks Baird. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church and he served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII, European Theatre. Mr. Baird was a member of the UMWA and was a construction worker.



Mr. Baird is survived by two daughters ~ Gwendolyn B. (Mike) Ramage of Princeton, Kentucky, Rosanna (Jonathan) Gunn of Charleston, Kentucky, three sons ~ Claude Lee (Donna G.) Baird of Caldwell County, Kentucky, William “Bud” (Sherry) Baird of Caldwell County, Kentucky, and Sonnie Gale (Joy) Baird of Madisonville, Kentucky, a sister ~ Elaine Hensley of Dawson Springs, Kentucky and a brother ~ Robert “Bobby Jo” Baird of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.



Preceding Mr. Baird in death were his parents, his wife ~ Betty Jane Baird (departed 12-29-2003), four sisters ~ Francis Denton, Claudine Alexander, Clara Rose Melton, and Billie Stratman.



A visitation for Mr. Baird will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, Kentucky, and on Friday, January 2, 2015 visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the funeral hour at 1:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Rev. William “Bud” Baird will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Meadows Cemetery, Caldwell County, Kentucky. Mr. Baird’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
