Dawson Springs

Deward Stallins was born on June 24, 1926 in the Lewiston Community in Caldwell County, Kentucky. His parents were John Milton Stallins and Effie Stallins. His one sibling was a 24-year-old sister, Mae Perry.

Deward graduated from in 1944 from the Caldwell County School system. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in Guam for over a year.

He married Naomi Ruth McKnight on July 14, 1946. They had two sons, John Richard (deceased) and Grei S. Hinsen. Their family grew to include granddaughter (Tara Star, deceased), great granddaughters Kaitlin Dawn and Ashlynn McKinney (Damon), and great-great grandson Chase. His and Naomi’s family also included nephew Wade McKnight (Barbara), great nieces Erin, Jenna (Jeremy), and Bonnie (Collin), and great great nieces Samantha, Emma, and Elowin; and niece Julie McKnight Scheving, great nephew William (Katie), great nice Rachel (Chris), great great nephews Nolan and Evan, and great great nieces Myra, Emilia, and Sophia.

At the age of 21 Deward began working in the insurance business where he served for 45 years. He often received awards for his faithfulness and success. Health issues determined early retirement but he never stopped being an active and effective member of the community!

Deward served as the mayor of Dawson Springs, his Lord (being a charter member of Dawson Springs United Methodist Church and serving in many capacities), and a long-time active member of the Rotary Club.

He was warm and kind to everyone he encountered and was loved by a host of family and friends! Dawson Springs is stronger because of his life-time of commitment to others. He is and will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial service held for Deward and Naomi Stallins at a future date.
