Charlene June Nixon Utley, born on September 5, 1936, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, passed away on January 1, 2026, at Charter Senior Living of White House in White House, TN. She was a beloved figure in both her family and community, leaving behind a legacy defined by her dedication to education, faith, and family.
Charlene devoted many years of her life to serving as an elementary school teacher in the Warren County School System in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her passion for educating young minds was evident in the positive impact she had on countless students over her career. Additionally, she earned her undergraduate degree from Morehead University and later attained her Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University, reflecting her commitment to personal growth and academic excellence. A long-time member of State Street United Methodist Church in Bowling Green, Charlene's deep faith was central to her life. She actively contributed to her church community, embodying the values of compassion and kindness in her everyday interactions.
Charlene is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Mitchell of White House, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Adam Mitchell and Misty Witherington; and her two great-grandchildren, Juliette and Archie Witherington. Their lives are a testament to her nurturing spirit and the love she imparted to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Anderson Nixon and Beatrice Cansler Nixon; her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Kenneth Utley; her son, Kenneth Wayne Utley, Jr.; and her brother, Bobby Nixon.
Visitation for Charlene Utley will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour at 1:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, KY. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, KY.
